But to initiate, develop, manage and evaluate healthcare innovations, we need innovative and enterprising managers, policymakers, consultants, researchers and other healthcare professionals - precisely what this programme aims to produce.
Why this programme?
Which innovations are needed to accomplish efficient, effective, sustainable and high quality healthcare? To be able to answer this question, this programme offers a multidisciplinary approach and brings together both theory and practice in its focus on innovation. And it does so, on all possible levels, from micro- to macro-level, from individual organisations to national healthcare systems, from patient relations to the process of caretaking.
You learn how to analyse situations in which innovations are needed, come up with innovative solutions, implement and manage these solutions, and critically evaluate and improve them. The programme also emphasises the importance of practical skills and hands-on training in conducting your own research. For their thesis, past students have undertaken research internships at academic organisations (e.g. universities; research institutes) and non-academic organisations (e.g. hospitals, long-term care organisations, insurance companies, government agencies, [pharmaceutical] industry and consultancy agencies). Some stayed in the Netherlands, others went abroad as far away as Singapore or India.
Around 90% of our graduates find relevant jobs within less than a year, e.g. as care purchaser at a Dutch health insurer, senior policy advisor at the Dutch Ministry of Health, staff member Care Programming at GGZ, researcher, policy advisor in a healthcare organisation, manager, consultant, advisor, health economist or researcher at international firms such as TRAG PI, Medtronic, GlaxoSmithKline and Capgemini, and in many other organisations. You can look for work in: governmental institutions (from local authorities to the European Commission), independent administrative/advisory bodies (e.g. the WHO), healthcare organisations (e.g. hospitals, healthcare centres), consultancy agencies, healthcare insurers, universities and research institutes
